Why is it that instead of just uploading documentation, a photograph is required for account verification? I submit the document issued by the university and always receive the same feedback that it can't read it, even though I could send the original and not rely on my phone's camera. It's contradictory that such a flawed process exists in a leading technology company. |

Sorry you’re dealing with this repeated rejections are really frustrating. Applications aren’t denied because of nationality; it’s usually due to verification issues like unclear or outdated documents, missing school stamps, non-English documents (without translation), or unrecognized school email domains. Try reapplying with a recent, official enrollment certificate, add an English translation if needed, or verify using your official school email. After multiple rejections, it really helps to contact GitHub Education support for a manual review: https://education.github.com/help Hope it gets resolved soon |

Hi Tia,
You are not alone. I too have applied per the instructions and have met all the requirements and still got denied - instead I received an email (twice) pushing me to subscribe and pay. This is not a good look for this community.
I included valid University academic identification with my submission. Can someone in-charge please clarify what is the issue caused the rejections so that I and others can address it directly? I’m happy to re-submit the application, so please let us know. Can some contact me directly in-case I am overlooking something?

Hi everyone!
I am a faculty member at University of Isfahan, Iran. I have applied twice for GitHub Education, but the applications are denied. The main problem is that the form requires me to use my device's camera, and I have to photograph two documents (the original one and the English translation) side-by-side, which causes the image to be not legible (probably, it doesn't let me see it afterwards!). Can anyone please help me?

Hi Michael (and Farshid), you’re definitely not alone many students and faculty face this, and it’s understandably frustrating. The denial usually isn’t about eligibility or pushing paid plans, but verification failing (for example: unclear photos, documents not legible, or issues with the upload process). If the camera upload forces multiple documents into one unclear image, that alone can cause rejection. A few suggestions:

Hi @mossaiby To be honest, you aren't missing much because the GitHub Education system actually requires the use of the camera for document uploading, so you can't directly upload your PDF using the form. This is precisely why it's difficult if you need to include more than one document or translations. Some tips that might help:
I know this is annoying, but they should generally be able to tell you exactly what is missing and what needs to happen to get approved. |

Hi! Don’t worry this happens to many students and it’s usually fixable. GitHub Education verifies students based on the institution name and proof you submit. Since your college appears mainly as an Engineering College, and you’re studying in Arts & Science, the system may not recognize your enrollment correctly, which can lead to a declined application. Hi! Don’t worry this happens to many students and it’s usually fixable.
GitHub Education verifies students based on the institution name and proof you submit. Since your college appears mainly as an Engineering College, and you’re studying in Arts & Science, the system may not recognize your enrollment correctly, which can lead to a declined application.
Here are a few things you can try:
1. Reapply using the closest matching college name
If your Arts & Science college is part of the same institution as the Engineering college (or uses the same official name/domain), it’s okay to select that option.
2. Upload clear proof of enrollment
Make sure the document shows your name, college name, and current academic year. A bonafide certificate, enrollment letter, or a valid student ID usually works well.
3. Use your official college email if you have one
If your college provides an .edu or official domain email, verifying with that can help.
4. Contact GitHub Education support
If the college listing seems incorrect, you can reach out to GitHub Education and explain that you’re an Arts & Science student. They’re usually helpful with manual reviews.

I done all you suggested 3 times and the results the same. You may need a human in this process. Can I suggest that you personally take a look at the rejecting applications yourself instead of sharing basic if then else suggestions. You are only compounding the problems instead of directing resolving or tacking the root cause.

I do agree with Dr. Craige.
We have done what was asked and double-checked more than once, each time.
And we are adults with the sensibility to try and try again, before even calling support for help.
Here at the support platform, you are telling us to repeat the steps again. The very same steps that gave errors.
How many more hoops and loops will Github put us through? How much more of our time do you intend to waste away?
